About Me

Just to help you catch up, I'm Jen. I'm 39 years old. I live in Minnesota. I don't have children or a significant other. I have 2 cats, Emma and Leena. Leena is new since September and she's recovering from a rough start.

I have a small suburban apartment on the 12th floor facing west. My apartment building has a community garden plot (just below my window, actually) that operates on a legacy system, so it can take a few years to get a plot. I'm the youngest gardener by at least 25 years and I am the only gardener born in the United States.

I'm not a good gardener, I'm a learning gardener. I garden for skill and amusement rather than major crop production. Still, I produce way more herbs and vegetables than I can use myself, so I share it with neighbors who don't have garden plots. My bushels of herbs were really popular last year. The little spots of flowers I planted went gangbusters. I get a little bit better at this every year.

I went from a very work-oriented life to a very minutiae-oriented life. My garden takes up June - October on the ground. A few months below for planning, and eating during and after. It's actually a pretty big deal in my life. I have SO much to learn, plan, and maintain, that it fills up the snowy spring nicely.

Starting seeds hasn't been very successful, but I keep trying. If I can't get enough going, there is a local grower, The Pflaum Family, that has a big supply of seedlings and I've never had one fail yet.
