Last year, I did all I could to start seeds, yet keep them away from my cat. The stalks of the seedlings were getting long/tall, but only 2 tiny leaves had grown. I wasn't sure what was going on, so I looked online and found "seed stretch." The suggestion to correct it is that the seedlings are looking for circulating air, so I cut down the sides of my containers to give my plants room to breathe.
I had a lot of seedlings start and die last year. I'm not sure what happened since it was my first time starting seeds.
This year, I've got long/tall seedling stalks with tiny leaves, so I read my old blog post and looked online. I forgot that all of the sites that talked about seed stretch were site for people who grow marijuana indoors. I've decided to discount the info and try to be patient. Maybe I can find a place that sells seedlings that will let me look at the progress of their starts.
I'm also bugged by the spinach seedlings that have grown up, with long thin leaves that are trapped together at their ends by the hull of the seed. The hull is too hard and the leaves are too delicate to pull the hull off - I tried. So what's that about anyway?
